Reciprocity Deepens Intimacy

The other day, a friend made a post about the fact that often times there is always an imbalance in certain dynamics, particularly in friendships where one party fully extends themselves always checking-in, giving + doing much while the other simply takes & doesn’t quite give anything (of at all) in return. ⠀⠀

We know we can never force anyone to care about us even if we care about them. It’s either they do or they don’t. No need to patch up & create excuses. Yes there are cases where people clearly get busy + life happens, however, no matter what, at some point along the way, both party often takes turn being the one to check in. ⠀⠀

Towards the end of the convo I mentioned that reciprocity is needful in any relationship. And so the more each party actually values the relationship, the more they will reciprocate love, intention etc. Reciprocity deepens intimacy. ⠀⠀

But, my brain didn’t stop there. It made me further think about our relationship with Christ. He lavishes His love upon us, is always seeking us out, always giving us good gifts, always doing the extra-most for us and simply wants us to learn of Him & love Him in return. ⠀⠀

Sometimes we fail at that. We don’t reciprocate, we don’t sit at His feet long enough to walk away fed & whole from His goodness. We don’t get a chance to be fully bare + intimate with Jesus, so we end up void of depth & the full measure of what He desires us to be. ⠀⠀

The same way we hurt & feel pain from those who hurt us by treating us without care, who ignore us or forget about us, let’s think for a moment how Jesus feels when we treat Him like that? ⠀⠀

Remember, reciprocity deepens intimacy. The more we seek to love on God the way He loves on us, the more we dig into His words & listen to Him, the deeper our intimacy with Him grows, similarly, the more we take time to care for each other and really show each we value one another the stronger & better that relationship will grow (be it family, friend, etc). ⠀
