What About Channeling?

Hi friends, Blessings to you all. I pray as we dive into the first official installment of the new Jesus Saves series you and I will be blessed alike. This post is about channeling, and what the Bible has to say about such things. Before I get into what the Bible says about it, let’s take a look at what man professes channeling to be, and how it’s become a seemingly integral part in today’s society. I must warn you from now, this post is going to be intensive and long, but it will cover all aspects of the matter, in an effort to bring to light, the TRUTH!! Dare to carry on?

Channeling.

What is it? According to Wikipedia, it’s a form of Mediumship which is defined as: a mediated communication between spirits of the dead and other human beings. Basically, in channeling, you are able to connect with the dead, have a chat with them and speak as though you are speaking to the person right in front of you. The definition on wikipedia, further continues to say, no scientific evidence supports this connection between life and death, and that there are several different variants of mediumship; the best known forms are where a spirit takes control of a medium’s voice and uses it to relay a message, or where the medium simply ‘hears’ the message and passes it on. Other forms involve manifestations of the spirit, such as apparitions or the presence of a voice, and telekinetic activity.

Clarifying terms:

  • Christian – a person who lives by the Word of God wholeheartedly and seeks only to do God’s will (and the Word of God is Jesus Himself, as in 1 John 1:14 we are told the Word became flesh!)
  • Demon: work closely with Satan the Devil himself to deceive and perpetrate lies. They will take any situation and make it work for their pleasure, despite how innocently it started
  • Satan/devil: was once an angel in heaven named Lucifer, but after his own pride and selfishness, he was cast out and took with him 1/3 of heaven’s angels {see Revelation 12:4} (who are his demons). His main purpose is to deceive, to destroy and to kill {see John 10:10}. He often operates by giving you your hearts desires then taking everything away from you and laughing at you. His main mission is to turn people away from Jesus! by having you worship him, and not the True and Living God!

Ok, back to the post. The art of channeling, if it can even be qualified as such, has become a popular practice amongst many Christians and Non-Christians alike in our world today. Why? Most people can not let go of death or can not find closure, and to fill a gap they seek to communicate with the deceased. Imagine, it must be cool to communicate with dead folks, they can tell us everything! Right? Very wrong. As you probably had guessed, this post was not going to be in favor of channeling, but why? Well simple, the Bible does not support it at all. I’ll be pointing out much texts to prove this statement. Before I do, I’m sure you’re wondering what sparked my interest to write this post on speaking to the dead. Well, I will gladly tell you.

I was browsing around the web, reading blogs, bookmarking awesome posts with great tips of photos etc, then I stumbled across a post. The author lost her brother in a tragic suicidal event. Very sad and only Jesus knows best how to comfort us when we lose those we love dearly. As I read her story, I felt just saddened that he ended his life this way and felt her pain that neither her, nor her mother or other siblings could help him ease out of his depression. In the near closing she mentioned that her mom created a blog that would list detailed occurrences of her channeling sessions with the deceased son. I’m not sure why at the time I decided to visit it, it was perhaps curiosity, or just mere nosiness? But I’m thinking now, that it was because I needed to stumble across this: Channeling Jesus….wait what?? Yes you read that right, there were a bunch of series titled channeling Jesus. They were transcripts of the deceased son, the mother, the medium and supposedly Jesus.

I am going to go through certain points I read that were solely lies of the devil himself, and clarify with what the Bible actually says. I pray you read this with a desire to learn the truth, and as well allow Jesus to impart His truth in you, and that you shun the devil!

Problem one: You must pay for channeling

Though this practice is so popular, you have to pay to get any form of results. The funds for the practice is apparently very high. This is an obvious problem. If you are seeking to reconnect with someone and you have no funds, it means you can’t connect. More over, this is Satan’s biggest trick in channeling. Firstly, you cannot speak to dead people. Once a person dies, they are dead! No more voice, no more communication, that is it. What mediums and channelers do communicate with however are, demons. Yes, I said demons! Don’t believe me? Well here’s what God’s Word says:

10) There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch, 11) Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer. 12) For all that do these things are an abomination unto the Lord: and because of these abominations the Lord thy God doth drive them out from before thee. 13) Thou shalt be perfect with the Lord thy God. 14) For these nations, which thou shalt possess, hearkened unto observers of times, and unto diviners: but as for thee, the Lord thy God hath not suffered thee so to do. – Deuteronomy 18:10-14

31) Regard not them that have familiar spirits, neither seek after wizards, to be defiled by them: I am the Lord your God. – Leviticus 19:31

God has expressly said time and time again throughout the Word that He is NOT in favor of anything that deals with spirits and witchcraft. See in Deuteronomy 18:10-12 how it expresses those things which we as God’s people ought not to consort with? But what do those words even mean? A wizard? A charmer? Let’s define them.

Signs of witchcraft or devil worship:

  • Divination: the attempt to gain insight into a question or situation by way of an occultic standardized process or ritual. Diviners ascertain their interpretations of how a querent should proceed by reading signs, events, or omens, or through alleged contact with a supernatural agency. {via Wikipedia}
  • Observer of times: better known as an astrologist today, draws a horoscope for the time of an event, such as a person’s birth, and interprets celestial points and their placements at the time of the event to better understand someone, determine the auspiciousness of an undertaking’s beginning, etc. However, the methods employed by astrologers are variable and depend on the particular astrological tradition they employ and the information desired. ( the before was from Wikipedia). The horoscope is dangerous as it involves consorting devils to gather information on the possible future using planets and stars.
  • Enchanter: Practices the following: An incantation or enchantment is a charm or spell created using words. An incantation may take place during a ritual, either a hymn or prayer, and may invoke or praise a deity. In magic, occultism, witchcraft it may be used with the intention of casting a spell on an object or a person. The term derives from Latin “incantare” (tr.), meaning “to chant (a magical spell) upon,” from in- “into, upon” and cantare “to sing”. {from Wikipedia}
  • Witch: a person that practices use of supernatural or magical powers.
  • Charmer: uses folk magic to perform supernatural healing. It involves a twist on the Bible’s words, with the charmers own beliefs, making it seem their gifts are of God.
  • Consulter with familiar spirits: is the same as necromancy, see below
  • Wizard: A magician, mage, sorcerer, sorceress, wizard, enchanter, enchantress, thaumaturge or a person known under one of many other possible terms is someone who uses or practices magic that derives from supernatural or occult sources. Magicians are common figures in works of fantasy, such as fantasy literature and role-playing games; they draw on a history of such people in mythology, legends, and folklore. Although occasional practitioners of sleight-of-hand appear in modern fantasy, they are usually simulating the magic that others perform — or sometimes concealing their actual magic. {from Wikipedia}
  • Necromancer: OUR MAIN WORD FOR TODAY: is a claimed form of magic involving communication with the deceased – either by summoning their spirit as an apparition or raising them bodily – for the purpose of divination, imparting the means to foretell future events or discover hidden knowledge. The term may sometimes be used in a more general sense to refer to black magic or witchcraft. {via Wikipedia}

Here’s another Bible text that speaks boldly against this practice:

19) Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, 20) Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, 21) Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God. – Galatians 5:19-21

flee from sin

More terms associated with devil worship:

  • Adultery: having sexual relations with someone else’s spouse. Lust is also a form of adultery.
  • Fornication: having sexual relations prior to being married to your spouse. Spouse of whom should be the opposite sex!
  • Lasciviousness: also involves fornication, but also involves the act of rape, and child sexual abuse
  • Idolatry: the worship of anything aside from God Himself. For example, other gods, money, work, sex, tv, music, phones, people, sports, etc
  • Hatred: a violent and extreme dislike of a person or thing. This is sinful as God commands us to love
  • Variance: a form of deviation, being in disagreement with what is true, cause for disagreement
  • Emulations: using things or people around us to shape what we become. Basically, we are not more than where we are placed. However God says trust in Him and He will shape our futures and not we ourselves
  • Wrath: is bitter anger that leads to hate. Wrath often causes a person to be perpetually angry and continually holding a grudge
  • Strife: to be at war, to seek war or fights with others, linked to anger and hate
  • Seditions: to form a rebellious disorder, a disorderly conduct
  • Heresies: speaks against the Word of God, does not agree with the Bible
  • Envyings: a feeling of discontent or covetousness with regard to another’s advantages, success, possessions, etc
  • Murders: to kill someone in a malicious attempt. Often done in wrath and hatred, is deliberate and pre-meditated
  • Drunkeness: inebriated, intoxicated, being in a temporary state in which one’s physical and mental faculties are impaired by an excess of alcoholic drink;
  • Revellings: is defined as  boisterous merrymaking or festivities/partying. A well known form of this is Carnival or clubbing.

Now that we have touched on all the terms associated with devil worshiping, be it in the form of withcraft, boisterous partying, or adultery, we can all agree, it’s wrong. Sin is sin! Now back to the channeling or necromancy.

And we said a Necromancer:  is a claimed form of magic involving communication with the deceased – either by summoning their spirit as an apparition or raising them bodily – for the purpose of divination, imparting the means to foretell future events or discover hidden knowledge. The term may sometimes be used in a more general sense to refer to black magic or witchcraft. {via Wikipedia}

I said I’d highlight some of the things I read via the blog of the woman, and here are the few things that really struck me to write.

Religion:

Q. the question was asked if there was any right religion. The reply was, “no there is no right one, there is no wrong one either” it went on to add that cults and even evil religions are created so we can have structure.

A. to answer that, yes there is a right religion, and furthermore only ONE right religion. And that is Jesus! Go back and see the definition of Christians. If you can’t agree that Jesus is the only way, then surely you’re saying everything is acceptable, even the same murder, stealing etc. Doesn’t add up does it?

Jesus was just a man

Q. the question was asked about who Jesus was, if there was some form of consciousness about him apart from him being man.

A. the channeled son then says Jesus was just a man, further it goes to say, Jesus was born of a woman who had sex with a man, and that Jesus also didn’t die on the cross but instead died of old age, and that there was no death, he was kept alive then died in old age. Also it later goes to say that Jesus was one of the bigger celestial beings that received a huge chunk of God’s energy.

Before I move forward, now if you read that answer and can’t truly see the folly in that, then I don’t know what to tell you. First it is discrediting who God is, discrediting that Jesus was born of a virgin, but instead insisting that Jesus was born of fornication (yes, the same fornication God speaks against) by saying Jesus was born because Mary had sex with another man. That alone friends is were you can tell this folly is of the devil! Why would God’s word tell us that Jesus was immaculately concepted, then here come via necromancy to tell us otherwise? No wonder the Bible says be wise as serpents, and harmless as doves. (Matthew 10:16)

Now after another session, they supposedly are speaking with Jesus himself who also adds his confirmation that he was not immaculately conceived. In another session the channeled Jesus claims his mission was to simply tell others of the importance of the afterlife. <<Another red flag should go up here! Jesus’ mission was to tell of God and His kingdom and that we too can have eternal life if we serve God. No where in the Word is the after life mentioned. You can find the source for these conflicting sessions here

In fact here is what the Bible has to say about death:

10) Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest. – Ecclesiates 9:10

17) The dead praise not the Lord, neither any that go down into silence. – Psalm 115: 17

5) For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten. 6) Also their love, and their hatred, and their envy, is now perished; neither have they any more a portion for ever in any thing that is done under the sun. –Ecclesiastes 9:5-6

27) And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment: 28) So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation. – Hebrews 9:27-28

9) As the cloud is consumed and vanisheth away: so he that goeth down to the grave shall come up no more. 10) He shall return no more to his house, neither shall his place know him any more. –Job 7:9, 10

5) For in death there is no remembrance of thee: in the grave who shall give thee thanks? –Psalm 6:5

18) For the grave cannot praise thee, death can not celebrate thee: they that go down into the pit cannot hope for thy truth. –Isaiah 38:18

3) Put not your trust in princes, nor in the son of man, in whom there is no help. 4) His breath goeth forth, he returneth to his earth; in that very day his thoughts perish. –Psalm 146: 3, 4

23) But now he is dead, wherefore should I fast? can I bring him back again? I shall go to him, but he shall not return to me. –2 Samuel 12: 23

10) But man dieth, and wasteth away: yea, man giveth up the ghost, and where is he? 11) As the waters fail from the sea, and the flood decayeth and drieth up: 12) So man lieth down, and riseth not: till the heavens be no more, they shall not awake, nor be raised out of their sleep. 13) O that thou wouldest hide me in the grave, that thou wouldest keep me secret, until thy wrath be past, that thou wouldest appoint me a set time, and remember me! 14) If a man die, shall he live again? all the days of my appointed time will I wait, till my change come. – Job 14:10-14

19) And when they shall say unto you, Seek unto them that have familiar spirits, and unto wizards that peep, and that mutter: should not a people seek unto their God? for the living to the dead?20) To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them. –Isaiah 8:19,20

2) And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt. –Daniel 12:2

8) But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death. –Revelation 21:8

which all speaks against those that partake in these practices

God is not a man that He should lie, nor that He would mislead us and deceive us {Numbers 23:19}. God clearly says that the dead knows NOTHING! So if the dead knows nothing and they can not speak, whom are people speaking to when they channel? They are speaking to devils and demons seeking to make God into a liar. Friends, I hope this post made it very clear, the act of channeling the dead is wrong and even punishable by death in God’s eyes {See Revelation 21:8}. Also, for those who love to read horoscopes and do the lottery, please note these are also forms of the witchcraft. How so? Well you are putting your trust in man and even more so devils, and what does God say to that? “5 Thus saith the Lord; Cursed be the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departeth from the Lord.” –Jeremiah 17:5

Comfort to those who have lost loved ones

Death is never pleasant, and no one certainly wants to see those they love, taken away. But how can we be comforted in this period of grief? The only comfort we can offer those who have lost loved ones is this promise that we shall see them again on that great resurrection day. Those who lived a life after Jesus will most certainly be risen to meet their Saviour first. But we all have this hope that on that day we shall see all once again. As well, this we do know, Jesus came, lived, and died after being nailed to the cross, but on the 3rd day, He rose again!! So we have a risen saviour! And if Jesus himself conquered the grave, this also means we surely can claim His promise of eternal life {see Jesus’ amazing moment to the cross into the resurrection in John chapters 19-20}. It’s the fact that Jesus rose again, that gives us not only victory but hope that we too will have eternal life. Not here on this earth, but in heaven when He has returned to claim His people. {See Revelation chapter 21}

(Good texts to read also: 1 Thessalonians 4:16, 1 Corinthians 15:51-58,)

It’s a wise thing for you to note that the devil is slick and very cunning. He will do whatever it takes to deceive us, and trick us. But we can have victory! Jesus gave us the victory over death, He gave us the victory over sin, but we can only get it when we serve Him faithfully and wholeheartedly in all truth. When we allow Jesus’ Holy Spirit to minister to our very souls, we can indeed have the victory. Two key texts that should guide us in all things are:

22) But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, 23) Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. 24) And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. –Galatians 5:22-24

1) Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. –Hebrews 11:1 and 6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. – Hebrews 11:6

If we would all spend the same energy we put into movies, charts, tv and etc into getting to know Jesus and His word, we would be such un-defeatable Christians. I pray that Jesus will work in all of our hearts to transform us into the people we ought to be, teaching His truths and doing so boldly and in love.

God bless you all. Looking forward to the next topic in this series of Jesus Saves, till then grace and peace be with you.
